Not running yet
Well, my IT band is still aching. So far, I’ve been icing it for 15 minutes twice a day, and doing stretches when I think about them. It seems to have improved a fair amount between Saturday and, oh, Sunday evening. Since then - not much. It comes and goes, or at least I feel it more or less at times, but I’m not sure that its still improving. Or maybe its just slow.
One piece of good news is that the Galloway book talks about stretching being a good cure-all for IT band injuries. In fact, he even implies that you can keep on running just fine with enough stretching, which contradicts the previous book I checked. I’m not sure that I really want to risk screwing things up at this point though, especially with that 30K coming up in under two weeks.
So the long and the short of it is that I’ve made an appointment with my doctor to take a look at it. The only bad news is that her first available time was a week from today, Tuesday 1/6 at 10:00am. At this point, I’m not planning on running at all during the week, although I might try some heavy stretching followed by the elliptical trainer tomorrow. Or I might not. It’ll just depend on how I feel.
