Swimming is hard work!
Today was better than last time. We now have Ed as our full-time instructor, and we got to use the real pool. Started out on freestyle again, doing half-laps while he corrected our stroke and breathing issues. Its hard for me to really go slow and concentrate on form, but I know that its important. Spent about 7-8 minutes treading water while he talked about endurance and what to do if we got tired while swimming in deep water.
We also started backstroke today. Its harder, doing it properly instead of just floating around the pool - I especially noticed that I kept getting water in my eyes, and breathing it in for that matter, as I raised my arms up to stroke. Something to work on, or to get used to, I guess.
By the end of the class, I was really tired! I had figured that the marathon training would help me out, and I guess it did - my heart rate didn’t go above about 125-130 - but there were definately muscle groups that I’m not used to using getting a good, solid workout.
I’m glad I’m doing this.
