Heart Rate
Its been said that you can tell a lot about your general fitness level by taking your resting heart-rate. Recently, I’ve seen some indications that you benefit by checking it first thing in the morning, before even getting out of bed - and that monitoring it is a good early indication of health issues.
I haven’t been monitoring mine for a while, but I do know that a year ago, before I really started getting fit, my resting (not waking) heart rate was about 92. That may be a little high, because that would have been taken after moving around for a while, not just sitting down. But its the only one that I remember.
This morning I checked my waking heartrate, and it was 54. Just a few minutes ago I was taking a break, and checked my resting heartrate - 66. I think that I can say, quantifiably, that I’m in better shape now than I was then.
Of course, I knew that anyway. Its still an interesting number to think about.
