5 Mile Neighborhood
Pretty basic run today - I was short on time so I decided to do my race-pace hilly run and save the nine miler for tomorrow. Overall I did 5.13 miles in 43:18, for an 8:25 average pace - 10 seconds slower than my goal, just like last week’s run. Went out too fast again, overcorrected, etc.
Time: 7:53 - 8:44 - 8:32 - 8:39 - 8:30 - 1:00 (7:45 pace)
I’ll get it right one of these days. I just need to start softer, but I’m always concerned that I’ll end up doing the first mile in 9:30 if I do that.
Maybe that’s okay.

I think you are right. It’s always best to start off slow and then play catch up at the end (if needed). Good luck with your Sunday run!

I’ve been aiming to hit my first mile in 9:30 on this kind of run for a few weeks now. I actually think it makes for a pretty good warm-up, and then I feel much better for the rest of the run.
