Running Towards Fitness

Personal Awareness
The ancient Greeks used to believe that a healthy mind and a healthy body not only went together, but were both critical for happiness and a successful life. They were also intertwined, meaning that a weakness in either area would affect the other. When I started this transformation I was overweight and full of excuses. And by overweight I don't mean just a few pounds - I weighed over 70 pounds more than I do now. I finally took my life into my own hands and started exercising. At the time, I had no idea where it would lead - to a stronger body, a happier, more nimble mind, and a chest full of race medals. Healthy mind, healthy body, indeed! It hasn't been easy, or without issues, but I wouldn't trade the experience for the world.

Gym Workout

I had my first gym workout in a while for lunch today. Nothing fancy, just met up with some friends for Chipotle and lifting. We warmed up for 5-10 minutes on the elliptical, then headed for the weights.

Bicep curls - 10 reps of 70, 8 reps of 75, 6 reps of 80
Tricep rope pulldowns - 10 reps of 40, 45, 50
Dumbell shoulder press - 3 sets of 10 reps with 35s
Dumbell vertical row - 3 sets of 10 reps with 45s
Standing hamstring curl - 3 sets of 40 (each leg)
Crunches - 50 regular, 50 left iso, 50 right iso
Calf press - 3 sets of 25 fast reps of 250
Situps - 3 sets of 20
Dumbell flies 10 reps of 15, 8 reps of 15, 6 reps of 15 (bleah)
Dumbell bicep curls - 10 reps of 30

This felt good. I need a renewed commitment to make the time to get a solid upper and lower body workout in once a week in the future.

  1. mmmmmm, Chipotle….
Not that I’ve been to heaven yet (or can remember it if I did), but I imagine there is a veggie fajita bol with my name on it waiting there.
