Easy run
I just did an easy 4.3 miles around the trail - the loop from I-35 to the Pfluger bridge. It felt good, although I could tell I was working harder than normal for my speed. When I started out my groin muscles were a little sore. As I ran they felt better, then my right knee started to ache a little, then it got better and the annoyance moved to my left shin, et cetera. By the end of the run I was feeling pretty good all over, but I’m glad that I didn’t do anything too crazy today.
Hmm. Well, I just checked my watch and I did the distance in 38:50, which gives me an average pace of 9:02. I guess that wasn’t quite as slow as I was going for, which makes me feel a little better about my post-race condition!
I’d also like to take the time to say a heartfelt, “Thank you,” to everyone who’s commented lately. Its sometimes too easy to look at what might have been and get disappointed. I have to remember that I only started this journey 17 months ago, and that an 8:45 pace for a 30K really isn’t anything to be ashamed about. I should know better, I know, but sometimes I don’t - and that’s where I’m very grateful for this online support group. Thank you all.

Richard,
I’m late to jump on the bandwagon of praise, sorry! But I did want to say congrats on a good race. It’s funny, we get these high expectations for ourselves, and it’s hard to change them!
So, what are your Freescale goals (Or are they secret?)?
Take care and stay injury free!

17 months? That’s it? Ok, now I can’t respect you anymore because you haven’t been a life long runner. And an 8:45 pace for a 30K is far too good for someone who is a “beginner”. ;)

Sorry it took me so long to say Congrats! That is such a strong race for Buda. People have a tendency to really underestimate that race. It’s not your “normal” 30K for some reason. It’s meaner. Your strong showing there should give you some serious confidence for the marathon!
