Running Towards Fitness

Personal Awareness
The ancient Greeks used to believe that a healthy mind and a healthy body not only went together, but were both critical for happiness and a successful life. They were also intertwined, meaning that a weakness in either area would affect the other. When I started this transformation I was overweight and full of excuses. And by overweight I don't mean just a few pounds - I weighed over 70 pounds more than I do now. I finally took my life into my own hands and started exercising. At the time, I had no idea where it would lead - to a stronger body, a happier, more nimble mind, and a chest full of race medals. Healthy mind, healthy body, indeed! It hasn't been easy, or without issues, but I wouldn't trade the experience for the world.

Who’s Running Freescale?

I know there are some other folk out there in the RBF who are planning on doing either the half or full Freescale marathon here in Austin. Its just two and a half weeks away now!

Since I know I didn’t list everyone, how about dropping me a line if you’re going to be here for the big day? If you’re interested, and depending on your travel plans, maybe we could get together to do a little carbo-loading happy hour style? I’d be happy to drive folk around the course, recommend other good running spots, and whatever else I can do to help you out - especially if you’re coming a long way. Austin is a great place to be a runner.

About

I'm Richard Stanford, a fit, happy runner. Of course, that wasn't always the case. Dip into the archives to follow my progress from couch potato to sub-four hour marathoner.

I also like to cook, write, code, and play with power tools...

  1. I’ll bet it is! Wish I could come!

  2. You know, they do race day registration…

  3. Me me me! Running half. Still a little nervous. I think the night before might be a quasi-valentine’s dinner since the 14th falls on Monday.

But if you all do something earlier in the day - a mid-day carbo snack? I’ll join you!

  4. I don’t know if you read these bloggers, but they’re doing Freescale: www.eliterunning.com/meghan/ and www.eliterunning.com/jenandmats/

  5. ha! funny Richard. You never know…

  6. I’ll be there for the Half. Not sure when I get in but as it firms up I’ll let you know.
