Listen to your Body
That’s what I did this morning. I wasn’t sure how I was going to be feeling but after I suited up and got down to RunTex shortly before 6AM, I was doing alright. There was a very small group of us today; most of the marathon group did some additional circuit training and it was only Frank, Jolel, and I slated for the progressive run (since we’re doing circuit tomorrow). We waited a few minutes for Jan and Patrick, but when they showed up they said that they were planning on doing 10 for some reason, so we headed out alone.
Despite Frank’s assertions that he was going to take it easy, they started to pick up the pace a little coming up on the Riverside hill and I decided to keep steady and let them go, maintaining my 9:30 warmup pace. Once I got to the trail on the other side I brought up my speed a little bit, but I wasn’t feeling particularly good or strong after yesterday’s difficulties.
This is when I started listening to my body, and decided to take it easy. I wasn’t out there for anyone but myself, after all, so I kept the speed up at about an 8:50 pace which was both comfortable and a workout, and didn’t worry about it. There are, after all, another 19 weeks to go before NYC. I finished out the day with a 9:02 average pace for the loop, did some stretching, and went to work.

Good job, Richard. Sounds like a sensible run given yesterday. Good that your feeling better than you were. Gotta be tough to hold back when you are used to pouring on the steam too.

“There was a very small group of us today” I wonder why? Maybe because you were running before 6AM!!! WOW–that is dedication!

You’re running NYC? Excellent - may have to see about setting up a RBF meetup …
