Seven mile recovery run
Today was nice - we didn’t have to meet up at RunTex until 6AM! You know, I never thought I’d consider that to be a good thing, but it is disproportionately nicer than meeting up at 5:45 for some reason. The regular Tuesday pack was there, and it was a good opportunity to mingle a little, but then they headed off for AHS and we went the other direction for our seven mile recovery run.
I ran with Sean for most of the way, but since there were only six of us we pretty much stayed together. At first we did a very comfortable 9:20 pace, but that only lasted a couple of miles. The next three saw us gently pick it up until we were doing about an 8:40 by the time we got to the MoPac overpass. This was a good excuse to stop and grab some water before finishing up, and the break was welcome even though we didn’t slow back down.
For some reason - probably because I needed this rest day - this felt almost as hard as yesterday’s tempo run. My legs were stiff, I was sweating like some very sweaty thing, and my breathing was definately hard. Its not that I couldn’t have run faster, but I certainly didn’t want to.
We ended up doing the loop in a little under 1:03 for a little over a 9 minute overall pace, including the water stop. Running pace was a bit under 9. That’s a little warm for a true recovery run, but not bad. After we cooled down a bit we ran 4 100M strides, then headed back to stretch and get to work. As always, my first stride felt very stiff and awkward but I was having a nice fun fast time by the last one.

“sweating like some very sweaty thing”
classic!
good job on keeping the pace easier so you could get the miles in, but still give your body a break from the tempo run.

Cool map, Richard. That’s from your Forerunner, right? I need to download the app.

Jeff - thanks! I’m feeling pretty good these days.
Susan - yes, that’s from ForeRunner data, but the map is generated by MotionBased. They’ve got some issues, but the fact that they’re web-based outweighs the fact that I can’t really play with the data … for me at least. Notice the bad point on that map (a brief jog North into the middle of the lake, near the beginning (running counterclockwise))? I could have deleted it with TopoFusion, not with their stuff. Still, its good enough for my purposes.
