Short Recovery
Today the plan was for those of us who did 20 (or in Marcy’s case 22) miles in 85 degree heat to do the seven mile loop nice and easy, while everyone else was doing 45 minutes of fartleks. Well, I was sore and the miles were feeling far from easy. We headed off at about a 9:15 pace, stopped for water at MoPac, then continued around the loop. Even though we were doing no faster than our LSD pace, my heartrate was up in the high 160s and I was feeling pretty lousy. After we got to the North end of the Pfluger bridge I decided to listen to my body and peel off, heading back to RunTex after only a bit over four miles.
I wasn’t the only one to do so either. Marcy and Sarah continued on around, but 4-5 of the Chicago folk had cut their fartleks short as well. This was just a hard, hard weekend. I added eight strides to the end of the run, which helped, then just headed back to my car. I guess this means I can’t skip tomorrow!
