Running Towards Fitness

Personal Awareness
The ancient Greeks used to believe that a healthy mind and a healthy body not only went together, but were both critical for happiness and a successful life. They were also intertwined, meaning that a weakness in either area would affect the other. When I started this transformation I was overweight and full of excuses. And by overweight I don't mean just a few pounds - I weighed over 70 pounds more than I do now. I finally took my life into my own hands and started exercising. At the time, I had no idea where it would lead - to a stronger body, a happier, more nimble mind, and a chest full of race medals. Healthy mind, healthy body, indeed! It hasn't been easy, or without issues, but I wouldn't trade the experience for the world.

Easy Five Before Dawn

Last night I had a pretty brutal massage by someone I’ve never gone to before. It was great - felt like being abused by one of those trainers they shoot for boxing movies, and I was pretty sore afterwards, but I could feel him working at deep knots that I’d never dealt with before. This morning I was sore on the surface but felt more comfortable deep down than I have in a long time.

I showed up at RunTex 6AM this morning for an easy run to help flush some of the toxins out of my muscles, and did the five mile loop at about a 9:45 easy pace. Nobody else was there, although I did see Richard and Peter with a few other folk hanging out before their run, probably done much faster than mine.

Other than that, no real news. Carl worked on my foot for a good 5-10 minutes yesterday, and its feeling a lot smoother (although sore). I was able to take the time to do some thinking about Freescale, and right now I’m leaning towards going out at about an 8:30 pace for the first 16 miles, then picking it up and seeing if I can get it under 3:40, but that’s all speculation so far. I guess the real answer is that I’ll see how I feel on the day.
