Running Towards Fitness

Personal Awareness
The ancient Greeks used to believe that a healthy mind and a healthy body not only went together, but were both critical for happiness and a successful life. They were also intertwined, meaning that a weakness in either area would affect the other. When I started this transformation I was overweight and full of excuses. And by overweight I don't mean just a few pounds - I weighed over 70 pounds more than I do now. I finally took my life into my own hands and started exercising. At the time, I had no idea where it would lead - to a stronger body, a happier, more nimble mind, and a chest full of race medals. Healthy mind, healthy body, indeed! It hasn't been easy, or without issues, but I wouldn't trade the experience for the world.

Overnight Sickness

I wasn’t feeling great yesterday, but I put it down to being tired.  In fact, I’d been at the doctor’s office for an unrelated followup, and my blood pressure (normal last week) was up at 138/80, but I felt just fine.  Then yesterday evening I started feeling cold and grumpy, and was running a mild fever.  By about 11pm though I was up over 101 and shaking.  So, I took some Aspirin and bundled up warm.  Luckily, my fever broke during the night and as of this morning its back down to 99 or so and, other than feeling dizzy and even more tired, I’m fine.

But, well, that meant another day of no exercise.  It looks like I’m not going to get outside much at all between last Friday’s Fila Relay’s and Saturday morning’s 20 miler.  Which is a pity, because Austin’s fever has finally broken as well and its gorgeous outside, just in time for this year’s ACL fest — and last year’s hit 108, so I think we’re due for some good weather.  At least my legs won’t be tired…

I was wondering where you were yesterday! I hope you get to feeling better for the 20-miler. I’m going to have to do my own thing since I have to be at AustinFit around 7:00. Fun stuff.
