Running Towards Fitness

Personal Awareness
The ancient Greeks used to believe that a healthy mind and a healthy body not only went together, but were both critical for happiness and a successful life. They were also intertwined, meaning that a weakness in either area would affect the other. When I started this transformation I was overweight and full of excuses. And by overweight I don't mean just a few pounds - I weighed over 70 pounds more than I do now. I finally took my life into my own hands and started exercising. At the time, I had no idea where it would lead - to a stronger body, a happier, more nimble mind, and a chest full of race medals. Healthy mind, healthy body, indeed! It hasn't been easy, or without issues, but I wouldn't trade the experience for the world.

CT Scan Reaction

The scan itself was really no big deal - it was over in about 20 minutes. Heck, the paperwork took longer than that. I am having a very mild reaction to the iodine, though (they inject you with iodine about halfway through the procedure). At the time I felt the fairly common warming sensation, and a very bitter taste in the back of my mouth. Afterwards I’m feeling light-headed and somewhat nauseous. I checked the warning paperwork, and apparently if I vomit more than once I should call someone.

Lovely.

Still, no vomiting so far, so I guess I’m ahead of the curve, from a reaction standpoint. I don’t think I’ll be doing any driving any time soon though. My doctor will get the results in “a day or two,” which could mean tomorrow or Monday. I’m going back and forth between hoping they show something, and hoping that they don’t. I’m sure you can understand why.

My only complaint is that for $1,300 you’d think that they’d at least give you a souvenir t-shirt or something. Or a pen. Ah, well. I think I’m going to go lay down for a while now.

  1. not to be gross, but what would you puke? they haven’t let you eat for a day! I hate that feeling, though. Hope it wasn’t all for naught. Take advantage and rest up.

  2. Actually not eating was easy, since it only covered this morning (and I’m feeling better now anyway). However, it also covered not drinking anything, which meant that the berry-um smoothie taste stayed with me for a remarkably long time.

Have they tested your thyroid levels? I guess they got the anemia/iron levels with the other blood work, but thyroid, too?

  4. Yeah, Dr. McCarty did a thyroid check with my bloodwork on Monday. Good try though and please, keep on playing :)
