Weekend Update II
Alright, let’s see now. First, I’m still not running. I am feeling better than I have been though, although its a sliding scale.
At my doctor’s orders, I’ve taken the last couple of weeks very easy. Lots of sleep, lots of rest. My body temperature is now averaging around 97, which is weird but not actually unhealthy. My fatigue seems to be fading as well, although much more slowly than I’d like. Although, since I’d like it to be “gone,” I guess that any progression would be more slowly than I’d like.
According to my cardiologist, the global hyperkenisis shown on my first echocardiogram has disappeared and the readings that were borderline are now well within the safe zones. That’s a good thing. I’m scheduled for a treadmill stress test on Monday morning to make sure that there’s no lurking issues, which should be very interesting. After all, I’ve spent several years basically learning to keep running when my body’s ready to give up - that’s the only way to get past mile 22…
At this point, it looks as if I’m going to have to treat this virus like CMV or something and just make a long, slow recovery. I’m not going to be doing any races this season, obviously, but I’m looking forward to starting up again as soon as I can, and hope to be in great shape come the spring 5K season. And as a bonus, I’ve learned a whole lot more about medical diagnoses than I ever knew before this started. Not that that makes up for missing two marathons but, hey, if you don’t have your health, what do you have?
To everyone out there racing Marine Corps or Detroit (or anywhere else) this weekend, good luck!

glad to hear you’re on the upswing.
I thought of you a lot yesterday during a very tough course in Waco. I thought about quitting a few times, but kept going by remembering how lucky I was to be able to get to the start line, when you’ve worked so much harder and have so much more natural talent but were kept from your races this fall by things beyond your control. Keep us updated!
