Today is the First Day…
… of the rest of my running life. But first things first. We made it home alright, and it was a pretty uneventful trip. Just a couple of thoughts before I get to the good stuff - first, why does everyone thing that West Texas is flat and boring? Its hilly, picturesque, and quite beautiful a lot of the time. Second, good friends are everywhere. I mean, here we are, heading back from Los Alamos unexpectedly, and who did we run into in Central Texas but Mike, Hava, and some of their friends, on the way back from camping in Big Bend? Okay, there was a quick cel call involved when I realized we were probably both on I-10 heading East, but still its a pretty big coincidence.
What did we do? Shared road stories (we missed our plane, he forgot to pack his… well… never mind about that). So what was the first thing I did when we got back into town? Naturally, we met up with another good friend, Thon, for Mexican food (and margaritas) at Casa Rita. The good thing was that after stuffing ourselves, we went back and Thon and I headed off for a run.
Yes, a run! Not a very long one - just 1.8 miles at a 10:00 overall pace - but immensely satisfying. Hopefully this is just the first of many more to come.
